"It's quite incredible to think we might be able to save the world through fashion"

Vivienne Westwood has dabbled in ethical trading and African charity work before, with a range of T-shirts and totes, but this year she has spiralled into a new venture which involves Nairobi, Kenya-based disadvantaged women. These women are making patterned bags for Westwood using recycled materials. To help her with this she has joined forces with The United Nations International Trade Center, who will help Westwood debut her ethical fashion collection.
The bags are made from 100% recycled materials like roadside ad banners and safari tents.

To help promote her A/W african inspired collection she is shown below in the midst of the Nairobi slums in Africa, photographed by none other than Juergen Teller.

It was hard to choose my fave out of the bags that they have on yoox.com (the only place they are available) but this tote has to be it. I love the clashing colours. I have a real love for African prints at the moment and recently bought a lovely wristband band that I'll upload soon.

Asos has also jumped the band wagon of fair trade with their recent release of an African fair trade line.
